Derek McCormack RIP
It is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the death of our great clubman and Trustee Derek McCormack following a brave battle with cancer. Our thoughts are with his wife Heather, and kids Kealan and Aoife at this sad time.
Derek has always been a huge driving force behind the scenes in elevating our club to the next level in all aspects.
Derek was a true gentleman in every aspect, always calm whatever the situation. He loved nothing more than going to watch a rugby and meeting up afterwards to dissect the match with friends. Derek joined our club in the late 1980s and quickly established himself as key and trusted player. So much so, Derek was elevated to club captain for two seasons from 1991 to 1993. The club’s first and best ever D4 signing finally hung up his boots in 1997. Derek didn’t stop there and continued his duty as a committee member.
In 2013, Derek was appointed Trustee of the club when the club was on it’s knees with nowhere to play and a bleak future ahead. Derek worked tirelessly to help secure a new and permanent home for the club on Tibradden. The club was blessed to have such a high calibre person who worked in an understated but effective way to bring success to the club and there was no prouder man than Derek when the club officially opened their new grounds in September 2022.
The club have lost a great man but his legacy will be seen and enjoyed by many generations to come in Heavey Technology Park. An incredible friend with a brilliant intellect, A genuine guy. We were all the better for knowing him.
A man that truly did everything For The Parish!
Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
